Size guide

Find the right helmet size from a head measurement, and see how to take the measurements for a race suit and gloves.

Helmet

  1. Wrap a soft tape measure round the head, about 2.5 cm (1 inch) above the eyebrows, and round the back at the point that gives the biggest measurement.
  2. Measure two or three times and keep the biggest number. Wear the thin balaclava or head sock the driver will race in.
  3. Type the number below. Between two sizes, take the smaller one, as Bell advises: the padding settles a little with use.

Race suit and gloves

For a race suit and gloves, have these ready:

  • Height (cm) and weight (kg)
  • Usual size in fireproof clothing, if the driver has worn any
  • Glove size and boot size
  • The 13 body measurements below

How to measure

  • Ask someone else to measure, with the driver in underwear or thin clothes.
  • Tie a ribbon or tape round the waist, level with the belly button, as a guide.
  • Use a soft cloth tape. Be exact and do not add extra centimetres.
